What is drapery

Simple manipulations with fabric or complex cut elements can turn an ordinary model into a masterpiece! And all the fault - spectacular drapery.

Drapery (from the French draperie and drapage) - the formation of assemblies or many elegant folds. Drapery can lie down in soft waves or be completely chaotic.

The first and perhaps most skillful drapery creators were the Romans and Greeks. Drapery was the basis of the antique costume.

Even the simplest ancient Greek tunic (similar to a shirt) was with draperies: a rectangular piece of fabric was sewn together on the sides, buckled on the shoulders and belted, making a small lap. Due to such simple manipulations, the fabric was draped naturally in the region of the shoulder girdle, waist and hips.

Drapery, as an element of modeling in clothes, harmoniously emphasizes all the advantages of a figure and very delicately hides its flaws. Like a magic wand, drapery can revive any fabric, transform the simplest silhouette.

Drapery can be performed in three directions of the threads, while the effect in the finished product will be completely different:

• On shared - folds are straight and deep;
• On the transverse - the folds lie rigidly, keep their shape;
• On the oblique - the folds will be very flexible, delicate, soft, wavy.
